Generosity Sunday 2022: Leap With Love

It is estimated that on any given night, there are over 500,000 people experiencing homelessness in the United States. Among the many difficulties and challenges that many people experiencing homelessness face, are the feelings of isolation and abandonment. On November 20th, Generosity Sunday, we will step outside the doors of St. Columba's to engage, connect and invite our neighbors to celebrate and rejoice in God’s love with us. Join us for an event called “Leap with Love” - an intergenerational opportunity for parishioners to engage directly with the unhoused population and create relationships.

We will be gathering during our forum hour in the nave, 10:15-11:05 to learn a bit about DC’s unhoused population, the value of building relationships, and how your participation can make a difference. We will transition to the Great Hall, where we will build “Love Bags”, filled with toiletries, cold weather essentials, a list of resources and an invitation to Wednesday Night suppers.

Joining a church doesn’t mean you don’t have big questions or doubts. Deciding to be part of a loving community of faith means you’re open to exploring and wrestling with those big questions and doubts. Most people here did not grow up in The Episcopal Church. Some have never been a member of any church. Many have a background in a different church or faith tradition. At St. Columba’s, there will be many opportunities to learn, ask questions, and get to know other pilgrims along the way. Our deepest hope is that everyone who steps through our doors knows they belong here.
